Founder’s Story
-Contributed by Dr. Tim Rafail, MD, Ph.D.
Dr. Tenzin Dadul, a Tibetan-American radiologist and oral medicine specialist, is a beacon of hope and inspiration. As the president of the Medical & Dental Association and a dean of PNET Global School, he has made significant strides in 4-D diagnostic imaging and guided implant surgery. His journey, originating from a humble Tibetan family in a remote Himalayan village, is a testament to his resilience and determination.
In his early years, Dr. Dadul embraced the challenges of his environment, working various jobs in the Himalayas, including as an oxygen equipment carrier. His thirst for knowledge led him to learn English from Mount Everest climbers during his stint as a tour guide. This self-taught skill would later become a cornerstone of his professional journey.
The healthcare challenges in his village, marked by minimal access to clinics and hospitals, deeply impacted Dr. Dadul. Witnessing the plight of children and older adults suffering from dental complications and undiagnosed diseases, he was inspired to make a difference. A chance encounter with an American physician at a local restaurant, where he worked as a dishwasher, sparked his ambition to pursue a career in medicine.
Dr. Dadul’s dedication and hard work paid off when he became a successful radiologist and oral maxillofacial medicine specialist. His services have been invaluable to the refugee children and displaced diaspora of the Himalayan population.
Recognizing his immense potential, the United States awarded him a merit-based opportunity to study Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). His outstanding clinical acumen, dedication to teaching, groundbreaking research, public service, and exemplary leadership earned him the inaugural Beyond Excellence Award from UNC. To further refine his leadership abilities, he undertook specialized training at Harvard University and subsequently completed a Ph.D. in Leadership with a focus on innovation at Andrews University.
Dr. Dadul’s commitment to his roots is unwavering. Since 2009, he has been providing aid to his village and surrounding communities. His generosity was particularly evident during the COVID-19 crisis when he donated ten ventilators, medicine, and valuable medical equipment to many villages. His team, comprising physicians, dentists, nurses, oncologists, psychiatrists, educationists, and scientists, has provided free medical, cancer, and dental treatment to over 150,000 people.
As an academic dean and advisor at the PNET Global School, Professor Dadul continues to make groundbreaking contributions to the fields of 4-dimensional intervention radiology and guided implant surgeries. His dedication and expertise earned him the Outstanding Professor of the Year award at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, recognizing his exceptional contributions to research, teaching, and patient care. At the University of North Carolina, he was honored with the Beyond Excellence Award for his remarkable achievements in research, teaching, and societal service. His brief tenure as the founding Director of Digital Integration and Educational Research and a professor of Radiology at the University of Detroit Mercy further underscores his profound expertise. Now, as the academic dean of PNET Global, he continues to inspire with his innovative approach to technology. Professor Dadul's sense of humor, humility, and exceptional teaching style have endeared him to patients, colleagues, and students alike, making him a beacon of inspiration in the medical community.
Dr. Dadul’s kindness and compassion are palpable to those fortunate enough to interact with him daily. His pioneering work in creating the world’s first official 3-dimensional diagnostic imaging and computed tomography course is a testament to his innovative spirit. He is an elected fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, and the American College of Dentists. His community has honored him with the Society of Excellence Award for his contributions to global healthcare and education, and for inspiring millions of underserved children worldwide. Dr. Tenzin Dadul’s life and work continue to motivate and inspire, embodying the power of perseverance, compassion, and dedication.
